About Supervision

I offer 1-1 or group supervision for individuals working in the helping professions, including support staff and managers, youth workers and outreach workers.

Regular supervision provides a space for workers to process what they have heard or experienced in their work context; it is an opportunity to consider how challenges have affected them and what they need to look after themselves and move forward with greater clarity. It is also a space to explore tools to help them to maintain health and wellbeing in their role and ultimately better serve those they support.

When working alongside traumatised individuals, the risk of Vicarious Trauma is high. This may manifest in different ways for different people; for some, a numbness and detachment from the stories or situations they are exposed to, for others their worldview may be affected, or they may experience difficulties in relationships, connecting with others, difficulty switching off or physical manifestations of stress or anxiety.

Supervision is not counselling, however it draws on therapeutic principles to allow a deeper exploration of their thoughts and feelings in connection to their work and the challenges they are facing.

I encourage each individual to bring their full selves to supervision, mindful of the impact of external circumstances on how they may be experiencing work at the time.

Practicalities

To provide sufficient regularity for individuals to get the most from sessions, it is advisable to offer supervision every 4-8 weeks. I provide 1-1 and group sessions.

I offer supervision sessions online, via Zoom or in person in Brighton. Sessions can last either 50 mins or 1.5 hours depending on need.

My fees are £55 per individual session, group rates vary according to size.

Similar to a finding a personal therapist, is advisable to offer an initial meeting with a supervisor to ensure that it feels like a good 'fit' on both sides and that both parties feel they will be able to work together effectively.

Please do get in contact if you would like to discuss this further.
